As the EU Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth opens in Gothenburg, Norway is inviting the European Union to strengthen cross-border collaboration to stop the networks that illegally exploit workers, distort competition and undermine social structures, writes Erna Solberg.

European Union to get a single public prosecutor

A Luxembourg-based chief prosecutor, first envisioned in the 2009 Lisbon Treaty, will start work next year after getting final approval from the European Parliament today.

The European Commission welcomed on Thursday (June 8) a decision by 20 member states, including heavyweights Germany and France, to set up an independent EU public prosecutor's office which will combat cross-border tax evasion and fraud in the bloc.
